I know very little about due South beyond what people tell me, but Sibylla ti theleis by Hth is just, dude. I don't know the characters, but by the end of the story I felt like I knew the characters, like I wanted to know them. The writing is incisive and sympathetic and it's like a mindmeld happens between you and the people, like you stepped inside their lives and now you know everything about them from birth onward. It's...King-esque, almost, although much more controlled and disciplined than King. Thus very, very effective.
