The other day I was in the mood for fucked up Clark/Lex, and realized I hadn't yet read the revised version of Koi's Mercy. This is risk-taking like you don't often see in fanfic, taking the characters to extremes, saying what-if and braving all the dark places the answers require. Lex finds out Clark is an alien, and it turns out to be one lie too many. The ending is quietly horrific. I read it through my fingers every time.

Eve by Kate Elizabeth is a lovely little sliver of Chloe and Lana at the cusp of whatever comes after girlhood.

Past Grief by Te mixes SV with DC Comics canon in some new and unexpected ways. Reading it I got a real sense of the precarious balance both characters are holding in relation to each other -- the road to hell is paved with good intentions, they say, but sometimes it's really just paved with love.

So, Smallville. So far, for me, it's been all about Chloe Sullivan. Luckily Sarah T. has a fun, engrossing story called Incriminating Evidence. This one is Lex and Chloe on a field trip to Metropolis, but it's also so much more than that -- it's two characters with a world of difference between them learning just how very much in common they actually have.
